NUPOC honors the volunteer service of Ethel Giles as an Education Model in the prosthetics program. Ms. Giles has volunteered as a peer counselor for new amputees and as an Educational Model at NUPOC since 1988. Her experience with limb loss and subsequent training as a peer counselor enabled her to help hundreds of people. She radiates kindness and warmth, saying, “I just love people.” It is accurate to say that people just love Ms. Giles. She is a straight-talker who tempers hard realities with effervescent optimism that inspires hope, admiration and affection.
Ms. Giles has been extremely effective in her interactions with amputee patients and she has been a favorite with generations of NUPOC students and colleagues. Thank you for your years of service as an Educational Model at NUPOC, Ms. Giles. We will miss you!
